ABOUT premarital counseling
I absolutely love the work of premarital counseling. I get very excited about helping couples find new ways to connect and love each other while building on all the strengths they already have. I offer packages of 5 or 10 sessions, as well as a session-by-session option at $115 per hour.
Premarital counseling differs somewhat from traditional talk-therapy with me because it tends to be more direct and focused on your goals as a couple. I use a relationship assessment called "Prepare/Enrich", a heavily researched and highly effective tool that helps highlight strength and growth areas as a couple. I believe all couples can benefit from premarital counseling, even if you don't feel that you are having trouble in your relationship.
Think of it this way: would you plan to drive your car without ever getting the oil changed, washing it, or putting gas in the tank? At some point you would expect it to break down. How about your body? Would you expect to remain in good health your whole life if you never did things to take care of yourself like exercising or eating well? I like to think of premarital counseling as caring for your relationship as you would for your car, or your body. Your relationship with your partner is arguably the most important of your life. We invest thousands of dollars in our wedding day yet often little is spent on the long-term investment of connection and growth in our relationship, until we have problems. Wouldn't it be great if we could prepare our relationship for some of those issues before they arose? I believe premarital counseling helps us do just that.
